The Queen of Lies

In his 1923 conversation with art critic Marius de Zayas, Picasso stated: “We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand” Photorealist and hyperrealist masters, through their pictorial and sculptural mastery of the highest technical levels, have come to constitute an elite in the history of art. The imitation of reality to reveal its intrinsic poetry… a challenge in its own right… It could therefore be said that Carole Feuerman, internationally recognized as the forerunner in the hyperrealism movement and whose work is part of the most exclusive museum collections, has imposed herself over the years as the “Queen of Lies!”… On the contrary. By magically capturing a representation of what is considered beautiful in such a realistic fashion, almost un-real if not surreal her sculptures appear to be, her work unleashes a fundamental truth of humanity in its imperfect and universal beauty. Rather than just sculpting the superficial, Carole Feuerman goes way beyond, reaching for the unfathomable profoundness of human emotions... and the names given to her bronze and resin original sculptures offer us a key to understanding them: “Balance”, “Serena”, “Contemplation”, “Perseverance”, “The Midpoint”… It is through this window that we should open our hearts and dive into the essence of her unique work, rich of a spirituality which is essential to the elevation of our tortured souls in this materialistic world!... We thank her for launching us into this emotional and intellectual journey in such a simple and classical manner. It certainly comes as no surprise that the biggest public and private collections have paved the way by exposing her work since the 1970’s.
