Carole A. Feuerman is one of the most celebrated and influential figures in contemporary superrealist sculpture. Over a career spanning more than five decades, she has built an international reputation for creating works that combine technical mastery with profound emotional and psychological resonance. Her sculptures transcend realism, using the human figure to explore themes of resilience, balance, transformation, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, and raised in New York, Feuerman studied at the School of Visual Arts, Temple University, and Hofstra University. Before dedicating herself fully to sculpture, she worked as an illustrator and designer, creating artwork for major publications, television networks, musicians, and cultural institutions. Her early experience in drawing and design laid the foundation for the meticulous craftsmanship that would later define her sculptural practice.
Feuerman first gained international recognition through her groundbreaking figurative sculptures, particularly her celebrated swimmers and bathers. These works, characterized by extraordinary detail and emotional subtlety, transformed the language of contemporary realism and established her as a leading voice in figurative art. Rather than depicting idealized beauty alone, her sculptures investigate moments of introspection, vulnerability, perseverance, and renewal.
Throughout her career, Feuerman has continually expanded the possibilities of sculpture through innovation in materials, scale, and presentation. Working in bronze, resin, stainless steel, cast marble, and other media, she creates works ranging from intimate studies to monumental public installations. Her recent Tattooed Mythologies series merges classical mythology with contemporary storytelling, further extending her exploration of identity, symbolism, and human experience.
Her work has been exhibited extensively around the world, including major exhibitions at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Palazzo Bonaparte in Rome, the Medici Museum of Art, and numerous museums, galleries, and public spaces across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. Her monumental sculptures have appeared in prominent public art exhibitions and installations, including New York’s Park Avenue, the Seaport District, Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, the ParisOlympic Games, Venice, Naples, and other international cultural destinations.
Feuerman’s sculptures are represented in significant public and private collections worldwide. Her contributions to contemporary art have been recognized through numerous awards and honors, including the International Sculpture Center’s Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the field’s highest distinctions.
Beyond her artistic achievements, Feuerman is a dedicated advocate for the arts. In 2011, she founded the Feuerman Sculpture Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to supporting emerging and underrepresented artists through exhibitions, residencies, educational initiatives, internships, and research grants.
Today, Carole A. Feuerman continues to create ambitious new work while expanding the role of sculpture in public life. Through her commitment to artistic excellence, innovation, and human connection, she has established a lasting legacy as one of the defining sculptors of her generation.
