Mythological Tattoos

I have always been fascinated by the human body and the stories it can tell. After so many years of sculpting figures, I wanted to try something different. I began to see the body as a three-dimensional canvas where I could combine my love of drawing with sculpture. I turned to mythology because the gods and goddesses experience the same emotions we do: love, jealousy, betrayal, ambition, desire, and revenge. Their stories may be thousands of years old, but human nature hasn't changed very much.

With my Tattooed Mythologies, I am telling stories directly on the skin. Each tattoo has a meaning, and each figure carries its own history. I am not trying to illustrate ancient myths. I am interpreting them through my own imagination and experiences, exploring the conflicts and emotions that have always interested me.

In a way, I feel I have come full circle. I began my career making fragments of the body, and now I return to them with a lifetime of experience behind me. These sculptures bring together my past and present, my drawing and my sculpture. They are about the stories we carry within us, the things we reveal, and the things we keep hidden.
