Carole A. Feuerman's Hong Kong Hyper-Real Pool Party Lives Up to the Hype

Even the Hong Kong Skyline and Victoria Harbor couldn’t distract the crowd’s attention from Feuerman’s Harbour City Swimmers exhibition. The show is a surreal spectacle of hyper-real sculptures and models dressed as Feuerman’s sculptures integrated together throughout the exhibit.

People’s heads were spinning as models would come to life and move, while others waited for Feuerman’s sculptures to do the same.

Feuerman’s reputation as a master illusionist was immediately apparent and the crowd was entranced by the specially commissioned swimming pool home for Kendall Island, Olympus, Next Summer, The Golden Mean, Monumental Brooke with Beach Ball, and Monumental Quan.

Neon lights and camera flashes illuminated the flawless swimmers and set social media ablaze as Feuerman enthusiasts posted pics of the show that spread like wildfire.

It’s the sculptor’s first solo show in Hong Kong and the response has been monumental. Viewers were wonderfully delirious and delighted by Feuerman’s swimmers.

It’s often said that people fall in love with Feuerman’s sculptures because of their exuberant celebration of life in its finest details and the people of Hong Kong certainly seem to be reveling in this celebration.

There is nothing casual about Feuerman’s hyper-realism and perhaps that is its most potent trait. Feuerman’s swimmers transcend ordinary reality because of their timeless nature. Her artistic technique for hyper-realism succeeds in capturing emotion in motion.

The swimmers beckon for viewers to see reality afresh; after discovering the details of a Feuerman, people’s eyes cannot help, but be more aware of the world around them. The quiet gift given to people at the exhibition from every sculpture is the will and desire to truly see the magic of life’s finer points.

Anyone lucky enough to see the show will walk away with a new found hyper perspective, which will beautify their life and allow them to see new grandeurs residing all around them. They’ll realize that they were looking, just not hard enough.

Feuerman's Hong Kong Swimmers Show Opens in Two Days!

Just two days remain before the premier of Carole A. Feuerman’s first solo show in Hong Kong at Harbour City. There is a wonderful feeling of anticipation in the air as people ready themselves to experience Feuerman’s hyper-realism.

The show, organized by Art in the City at Harbour City, opens on June 18th and runs through July 5th.  The sculptures will be on view daily from 10am till 10pm.

This exhibition is an invitation for viewers to connect with the sculptures and allow the line between reality and art to be blurred.

Feuerman’s pieces freeze time and capture the finer points of reality and accentuate details that people are often too busy to admire or acknowledge.

The custom built pool and its swimmers defy everyday distractions and invite people to pause and seek reality in art, and through art be returned into an even more monumental reality.

Carole A. Feuerman Joins A-Lister 'Swanning' Trend

Feuerman and the likes of Taylor Swift and the Kardashians have Swan Fever. The hyper-realistic sculptor joins A-listers in celebrating a giant 7 foot long inflatable white swan.

Sales of the swan have skyrocketed and over 40,000 were sold this year alone. It has become the obligatory summer photo prop for Swift, Calvin Harris and a myriad of other limelighters.

Long before the inflatable Swan started making the rounds on the celebrity Instagram circuit - Feuerman took ‘Swanning’ to a whole new level and handcrafted and sculpted the Swan for her piece: Leda and the Swan in 2014.

Palazzo Mora, 2015.

The sculpture was featured in this year’s premier art event: The Venice Biennale. Feuerman’s show Personal Structures at Palazzo Mora was a huge success and crowds gathered to gape at the Swan. The sign that read “Do Not Touch” on the sculpture was interpreted as “Please poke, kiss, and sit on me” because people couldn’t get enough of the huge white bird.

Viewing Feuerman’s exhibit Shapes of Reality at Aria Gallery in Florence is how summer evenings are meant to be spent.

One distinct mark of a ‘Feuerman’ is the sculptor’s unique practice of sculpting and painting all clothing and accessories. Where others simply use actual clothing, Feuerman prefers hand crafted perfection to mere product. Reality after all, is in the details.

The sculptor’s life-size Diver is on view in the garden at Aria. Diver seeks to capture the physicality of the diver as his body arches and bends backwards. This diving shape represents perseverance and balance as well as the struggle to achieve.

Feuerman sought to accentuate this elegant shape to highlight the beautiful struggle of body/muscle that ensues when a diver pushes themselves past the limits of the ordinary.

As an artist, Feuerman recognizes in the symbol of the diver a kindred artistic spirit. The Diver is perched on the edge, readying himself for more than just a dive; he is about to create and define his own reality. Feuerman pursues this same bold path with her sculptures.

FEUERMAN'S ART TRANSFORMS HARBOUR CITY WATERFRONT OF HONG KONG

JUNE 18TH - JULY 5TH 

The forecourt of Harbour City Hong Kong is going to be transformed into a swimming pool for summer, and will feature six sculptures by world renowned artist Carole A. Feuerman.  The show, organized by Art in the City at Harbour City, opens on June 18th and runs through July 5th.  The sculptures will be on view daily from 10am till 10pm.

Harbour City is located on the spectacular Victoria Harbour, one of the busiest spots in Hong Kong, and right next to the famous Star Ferry terminal! Feuerman's six sculptures will be exhibited in a swimming pool constructed specifically for Feuerman’s swimmers solo show. Water will be coupled with interactive technology to complete the elegant illusion. Olympus, Lauren Perdue will be one of Feuerman's sculptures featured on the waterfront. Harbour City receives 222,000 visitors daily. It is a must visit destination for locals and tourists alike. All of Harbour’s events are free admission and non-commercial. They are striving to inject art into the community and act as a bridge between artists and the public.

Harbour City sought out Feuerman’s work because her Swimmers live forever in perpetual summer. Their presence will be a catalyst for people to relish the season and revel in the fact that summer is back! Choosing to exhibit Feuerman’s sculptures in heavily trafficked areas will encourage people to interact with the pieces and feel the warmth and excitement that they radiate.

Art in the City’s mission is to raise public awareness and promote art through media. They hope to educate the younger generation as well as the entire community about artistic expression through the experience of public exhibitions.

Harbour City has held five mega public art and cultural exhibitions since 2007. Among them was Ms. Yayoi Kusama’s ebullient solo show: “Dots Obsession, Soul of Pumpkin” as well as Florentijn Hofman’s wildly successful “Rubber Duck”, which drew thousands of admirers along the Harbour front.

Harbour City called on Feuerman to usher in heightened artistic interaction on a personal level for everyday viewers. Her sculptures are magnets for the eye and transformative for any public atmosphere. 

After the Hong Kong show, the sculptures will be exhibited in the Daejeon Museum of Art in South Korea, then travel to a museum in Seoul and on to Taiwan.

Recently back from Italy where her two new sculptures are being exhibited in the 2015 Venice Biennale by GAAF, Personal Structures, Feuerman is passionately enthusiastic about exhibiting in Hong Kong. 

Her sculptures will enhance the environment and leave an enduring legacy of joy and beauty in this magnificent public space.

The slightly, less insane way to navigate the 2015 Venice Biennale is via water taxi or vaporetto. Otherwise you’d break a world record for number of bridges crossed and number of events missed.

If you do manage to get a ride though, the squeeze is tighter than a NYC subway car at rush hour. As an art lover, there’s no choice, but to embrace being a sardine.

Seeing every aspect of the sprawling Biennale is quite impossible, but attendees strive to feast on as much of the mammoth artistic banquet as they can.

Everyone wants to be at the right place at the right time to discover ‘the piece of the moment.’ Well, her name happens to be Leda and she is residing at Palazzo Mora.

During the Biennale the sign that read “Do Not Touch” on Leda and the Swan evidently translated to: “Please poke, kiss, and take a seat!” The swarming crowd immediately adopted Leda as their own family.

People literally could not resist touching the sculpture, especially the Swan! They needed to prove that it was in fact not inflatable and that they could not use it to float down the canal in style.

The enduring hypnotic effect of Carole’s hyper-realistic sculptures was strongly felt by every visitor. Carole’s sculptures have the resilient and distinctive quality of being mistaken for the real thing again and again.

At one point a gentleman with a camera seemed to be engaged in a staring contest with Leda. He seemed convinced that she’d slip a wink and he’d be the one to catch it. We here at the studio applaud his efforts, but Leda never loses! 

Palazzo Mora

It was a multi-generational gathering at Palazzo Mora and Carole is always thrilled to see her work being enjoyed by an energized, diverse crowd. All who ventured in enjoyed live music and specially supplied JEIO Prosecco wine by Bisol!

Palazzo translating to Palace is highly appropriate since the ascending beauty DurgaMa stands tall as a lovely sculpted sentinel at the entrance. 

The sculpture very much embodied the exhibit’s theme of existence as it represents the cycle of life and the blooming of the Lotus Flower, which signifies rebirth.
